BASIC GUIDANCE FOR PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF ACUTE RESPIRATORY INFECTION COVID-19
(Materials for final year healthcare students: medicine, nursing, preventive medicine, medical laboratory technology, public health)
COVID-19, an acute respiratory infection caused by novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, was first discovered in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China in December 2019. Later, the disease spread to 31 provinces in China and outside of China with a very high transmission rate. By March 23rd 2020, 192 countries / territories around the world recorded a total of 335,396 cases and 14,611 deaths. On March 11th 2020, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 epidemic was a pandemic.
On 23/1/2020, Vietnam recorded the first case of COVID-19. By March 22, 2020, there were 113 confirmed cases with SARS-CoV-2 and no deaths.
From January 2020 until now, COVID-19 disease prevention and control activities of health sectors of all levels, along with all other sectors and localities have been proactively implemented and achieved initial results. These activities have been highly appreciated by the international community and people. However, the epidemic development continues to be complicated, with increasing case numbers including people coming from other countries and the epidemic transmission risk remains high.
In order to support the health sector and all other sectors and localities in COVID-19 disease prevention, the Ministry of Health has issued document No.230/K2ĐT-VP. This document requires all provincial or municipal Departments of Health, all universities, colleges providing healthcare professionals to organize urgent COVID-19 prevention training for their final year undergraduate health students. It is so that these final year students can participate in supporting the health system and the community in the epidemic prevention and control efforts.
This document is designed with the goal of providing the instituions reference materials to prepare approriate training programs for their students.
